New Board Directors Named

Kananaskis Country, Alberta

Destination Canada is pleased to welcome two new members to our Board of Directors. The appointments of Zita Cobb and Andrew Torriani add tremendous industry bench-strength and knowledge to our already outstanding board.

Appointed by the Government of Canada (Governor in Council), Destination Canada’s board is instrumental in the strategic direction of our organization and has helped guide us, and in turn, our industry’s growing success.

Both have been appointed to four-year terms. They will participate at their first Destination Canada board meeting in September 2019.

About the new board members:

Zita Cobb
Co-Founder and CEO, Shorefast Foundation
Zita is a strong advocate for tourism and has an acute understanding of the importance of the visitor economy. Growing up on Fogo Island, Zita developed a deep belief in the inherent value of place and a profound respect for the human ways of knowing that emerge from respectful relationships with nature, culture and community. In the early 2000’s, Zita and her brothers started the Shorefast Foundation. One of many projects on the Island, they opened Fogo Island Inn, a Canadian Signature Experience and often rated one of the best hotels in the world. In 2016, Zita was awarded the Order of Canada in acknowledgement of the work of Shorefast in collaboration with the community of Fogo Island to help secure a more resilient future for this singular rural place.

Andrew Torriani
President, CEO and General Manager, Ritz-Carlton Montréal
Andrew has had the hotel sector in his heart from a very young age. His father was a renowned hotelier in South Africa and he taught Andrew the business of exceptional hospitality. At 11, he was running the film projector on Saturday nights as a service to guests, before moving on as a teenager and holding a series of jobs, including porter and night bellman. After graduating from Queens University and McGill, and leading Air Canada’s Human Resources team, Andrew joined Ritz-Carlton in 1996. Andrew, his wife and their three children live in Montréal where they are all passionate about and committed to the community.
