Market Background

South Korea’s positive economic outlook, increased air capacity and strong currency supported a 30% increase in travel to Canada in 2016 – the fasted year-over-year growth of all Destination Canada’s key markets.  

Air capacity was a significant driver of arrivals to Canada in 2016, with a 38% increase supported by Air Canada and Korean Air flights to Vancouver and Toronto.   

Pleasure travel to Canada has been trending upward for the last 5 years. As of 2015, pleasure travel made up 31% of all trips by South Koreans to Canada. The majority of these travellers sought experiences showcasing Canada’s unique natural and cultural offerings, engaging mostly in FIT travel.
