Market Background

Despite Brazil’s weakening economy and depreciating currency, Brazilian arrivals to Canada grew by 2% in 2016, to 114,261 visitors.

Given that the World Trade Organization estimated a decrease in outbound travel of 30% from Brazil in 2016, for Canada to see growth in arrivals is a positive indication its arrivals is indicative of its attraction to Brazilians.

In 2015, Brazilians mainly visited Canada to see friends and family (38%), with 28% coming for pleasure & recreation. 64% of visits included a stop in Ontario, and 37% in Quebec.

Millennials comprised the bulk of both leisure (34%) and business (37%) travellers. Leisure travellers aged 20-44 constituted 47% of all visitors from Brazil.
